Please join us for First Friday, October 5 from 5-7 pm. We’re excited to be hosting new works by artist, educator and dear friend to the gallery Guitta Corey. She’ll be in the gallery to answer your questions about her work and creative process. We’ll also be celebrating gallery owner Jacqui’s 70th birthday with cake, music and special sales!
Guitta Corey holds a degree in printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design and over the years she has discovered that printmaking, pastels and collage are her preferred mediums. She has resided in Anchorage since 1979, and in 1980 opened Solstice Press, a stone lithography studio. There, she collaborated as a master printer with some of Alaska's most skilled artists. With a Masters degree in teaching, Guitta also worked as an art teacher for the Anchorage School District for 13 years before she left to become a full time artist. She is known for a type of collage called chigiri-e, or painting with paper, which involves overlapping several different papers to achieve the effect she wants, as a painter might use thin glazes of color. Don’t miss her unique and truly spectacular work.

Our non-profit for October is Tudor Elementary School. 2 Friends Gallery has a school business partnership with Tudor Elementary and we love supporting every aspect of the learning environment. We work to meet the needs of the school through book drives, clothing drives and hands-on help in the school. An ongoing problem is attendance. We are going to work with the staff to come up with incentives for good attendance. This month we hope you'll help us expand our donation by bringing in a pair of gloves for elementary school children. Principal Nicole Sommerville says they have plenty of hats but always need gloves and/or mittens.
