For the month of June we are excited to have two amazing featured artists.
Tamara Johannes is a multimedia artist who has worked in clay, metal, fiber and most recently warm glass. Originally a hot glass bead maker, she began experimenting with the art of fusing glass six years ago as a way of combining torch work components into more complex glass jewelry, functional art & sculpture. Using dichroic glass has become one of her trademarks. Come in and see her unique and lovely pieces.
Rod Weagant has spent over 40 years trying to communicate the wonder he feels about our natural world. Through oil paint and canvas, Rod has balanced his academic formalist background with the pure emotional response he feels when surrounded by the landscapes of Alaska and the western United States. Living for ten years in a cabin in the small community of Haines, Alaska he deepened his commitment to landscape painting in plein air. He then translates the immediacy of his plein air practice to his larger studio work. The results are deeply emotive landscapes that capture the energy and light of our outdoor spaces.
Our June non-profit is breast cancer research via the Alaska Run for Women. One of our own has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, and we are committing ourselves to supporting her, and all women who face the disease. It is a reminder to us all that cancer can strike at any time and we need to kick it out of our lives! Please consider donating to the Alaska Run for Women via this link: http://www.akrfw.org/donors/donate. Jacqui will also match in-store donations up to $1000, so come in any time in the month of June and donate!
